Evangelism Team

The mission of the Poland United Methodist Church is “to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ.” As such, it is our primary task . . .

to reach out to people wherever they are,

to receive them as they are,

to relate them to God through Jesus Christ

to nurture and equip them for Christian discipleship

and to send them out into the community to be the church in the family, the neighborhood, the community, and the world

We work hard to make sure that everyone is WELCOMED into our fellowship, whether that be just the causal visitor, or one seeking a vital relationship within the Body of Christ. Lay teams respond with a ‘door-step’ visit and small gift whenever possible.

GENESIS . . . a place to start

On the second and third Sundays of each month, classes are held for everyone interested in learning more about the Poland United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church. These sessions, lead by the Evangelism team members, meet in the Pastor’s Study, Room 210 at 10:15 am.

Mission Team

The Mission Team promotes the ministry of benevolence within the congregation. In our Wesleyan tradition, partnership in God’s mission flows from the three-fold understanding of God’s prevenient [ever present from the beginning], justifying [making us right or in-line with God], and sanctifying [making ordinary acts holy] grace that is revealed in Jesus Christ and experienced in the hearts and lives of Christian believers. Just as God’s grace is freely available to every human being, so is an invitation to join in mission partnership with God. Participation in God’s mission is a function, duty, and privilege of all believers --- laity and clergy, poor and rich, unlearned and educated, female and male, old and young – from every land and nation on earth.

The Mission Team keeps the congregation aware of mission outreach opportunities throughout the world, in this country and in the greater Poland area. With the team’s guidance, our church supports a covenant share of a missionary’s salary. In addition, Poland United Methodist Church supports such projects as: Africa University, Dendera Project, Red Bird Mission, Meals for Millions, Rebecca Williams Community Center, JOSHUA, Rescue Mission, Learning Center, United Methodist Community Center, Organization of Protestant Men, Fish Samaritan House, Protestant Family Services, Interfaith Food Pantry, Youth for Christ, Habitat for Humanity, and our own Helping Hand.

Salvation Army

Each month members of the church family gather and prepare meals at the church, transport them to the Salvation Army and then serve the meals to those who are in need within our community.

Poland Interfaith Pantry

Each month, the Interfaith Pantry [housed in our facility] provides food items to all in need within our Zip Code or members of one of the sponsoring Churches. This mission outreach affects an average of 45 families each month.

Annual Turkey Dinner
Each November [second Friday] the Mission Team holds the Annual Turkey Dinner, which is a church wide project, for the entire community. 100% of the proceeds goes to specified Mission Projects.

Mission Trip

Mission Trip Each year we plan a mission trip to various locations throughout the world. This is an opportunity for the youth and accompanying adults to be trained and to put into practice the sharing of their faith with others. During the summer of 2006,  youth and adults will travel to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota where they will led a Kid’s Club and helped repair houses. Over the years our Mission Trips have been as close as working with Habitat for Humanity right here in Youngstown, to working with J.O.S.H.U.A [Journeys of Service Helping Upper Appalachia] in Steubenville, Ohio, to working with the Choctaw Indian Reservation in Mississippi and the Chippewa Indians at the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota. Everything from leading VBS, repairing houses, painting, serving meals at the local food pantry, or helping stock food at a county wide food pantry has been done.

Sports Ministry

One of the ways in which we are intentional about reaching out to, not only the members and friends of the Poland United Methodist Church, but those outside of the church is through our Sports ministry.

Golf Outing

Every summer we hold our Annual Golf Outing. This is an opportunity for the Church family and friends to gather for competition and fellowship.

Bowling

The church's couples bowling league meets every Friday - September through April at 6:45 p.m. at Boardman Lanes. Come join the fun and fellowship!
